In Short

Gather a set of colored sticks, drop them onto a flat surface to form a random pile. Players take turns carefully removing one stick at a time without disturbing others. If a stick moves, the turn ends. Score points based on stick colors, with the highest scorer winning.

Game setup and rules

  • Gather sticks: Use a set of 40-41 colored sticks, typically made of wood or plastic
  • Start the game: Hold sticks vertically, then drop them onto a flat surface to create a random pile
  • Turn order: Decide who goes first, often the youngest player
  • Gameplay: Players take turns removing one stick at a time without moving others
  • Turn end: If a player moves any stick other than the one they're trying to remove, their turn ends
  • Special stick: The black stick can be used as a helper to separate or move other sticks

    • Blue: 50 points

Game variations

  • Retriever hook: Use a bent paper clip to pick up sticks for added challenge
  • Non-dominant hand: Require players to use their non-dominant hand
