Enabling ping display in Fortnite

To check your ping in Fortnite:

  • Enable Latency Debug Stats:

    1. Open Fortnite and go to Settings
    2. Select Game UI
    3. Scroll down to HUD Options
    4. Find Latency Debug Stats and toggle it ON
    5. Also enable Net Debug Stats for more detailed network information
  • Start a match: Your ping will now be visible in the upper left corner of the screen during gameplay

Understanding ping in Fortnite

  • Ideal ping range:

    • Below 60ms is considered good for responsive gameplay
    • 40-60ms is ideal for smooth gaming experience
    • Below 20ms provides exceptional performance with minimal lag
  • High ping effects:

    • Above 80ms can cause noticeable delays and lag
    • 200ms+ will significantly impair gameplay

Improving ping in Fortnite

To optimize your ping:

  • Use a wired connection: Connect your device directly to the router using an Ethernet cable for the fastest possible connection

  • Choose the closest server:

    1. Go to Fortnite settings
    2. Scroll to Language and Region
    3. Set Matchmaking Region to the one with the lowest ping
  • Limit network usage:

    • Close background applications and downloads
    • Avoid streaming or other high-bandwidth activities while playing
  • Restart network equipment: Reboot your modem and router to clear temporary connection issues

  • Adjust router settings: If possible, switch to the 5 GHz WiFi band to reduce network congestion
